Schools and Education

Martin’s children are public school students and he is on top of K-12 educational issues.

Public education must be a priority in Tennessee.  Martin believes that a quality public school system enhances a community’s quality in many ways.  Most importantly, it provides the foundation for a skilled workforce, prepares people for post-secondary education, and attracts people and businesses who might relocate to Knox County(thereby energizing our economy).

Martin believes that educational decisions are best made at the local level, by local school boards elected by the people and by teachers within the classroom.  He opposes all federal meddling in local school issues.  Martin supported the legislature’s elimination of Common Core in Tennessee and he supported a bill(soon to become law) which makes it clear that only local school boards have jurisdiction over K-12 Curriculum.
